OUR VARIETIES

ST. AUGUSTINE VS. ZOYSIA

St. Augustine and Zoysia are two popular types of warm-season grasses that are widely used in lawns and landscapes. St. Augustine grass (Stenotaphrum secundatum) is known for its thick, lush growth and rich green color. It has broad blades and a dense growth pattern, making it ideal for areas with moderate shade and high traffic. St. Augustine grass requires a moderate amount of maintenance, including regular watering and fertilization to maintain its health and vigor.

On the other hand, Zoysia grass (Zoysia spp.) is a fine-textured grass that forms a dense, carpet-like turf. It has a medium to dark green color and a slower growth rate compared to St. Augustine grass. Zoysia grass is known for its excellent tolerance to heat, drought, and heavy foot traffic. It also exhibits good shade tolerance, although it performs best in full sun or partial shade conditions. Zoysia grass requires less water and fertilizer compared to St. Augustine, making it a popular choice for those seeking a lower-maintenance lawn.

Both St. Augustine and Zoysia grasses have their own unique characteristics and advantages. St. Augustine is preferred for its rapid establishment and ability to thrive in shade, while Zoysia excels in its durability and adaptability to various environmental conditions. Ultimately, the choice between these two grasses depends on factors such as the amount of sunlight, foot traffic, and maintenance preferences, allowing homeowners to select the grass that best suits their specific needs and aesthetic preferences.
